Senior Pet Care
Dogs and cats over the age of seven are considered “seniors” and need special attention because they are at risk for the development of cancer, diabetes and other serious medical conditions. Since these conditions often advance gradually, it’s difficult for owners to detect the ongoing discomfort these progressive diseases may cause. To keep your senior pet feeling his/her best for as long as possible, we recommend yearly checkups together with diagnostic testing to screen for common geriatric disorders.
Surgery:
We provide all types of soft tissue surgical services. If your pet requires surgery, our empathic doctors will make sure that you understand all aspects of the surgery and all available options. The doctors and staff at DAH take great care to treat your loved pet as if he/she were their own.
Modern In-House Laboratory:
The advantage of our state of the art in-house laboratory is having point-of-care diagnostic capabilities when treating sick or injured pets (which means a more immediate and knowledgeable response), and accurately evaluating surgical cases prior to anesthesia.
Anesthetic Monitoring and Advanced Anesthesia:
Our advanced monitoring capabilities allow us to continually watch heart rate, blood pressure, respiration rate, and oxygen saturation. We use only the best anesthetic drugs to ensure the highest level of safety for your pet during his/her anesthetic procedure.
Pharmacy:
DAH maintains a complete, up-to-date inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, and heartworm preventatives to meet your pet’s needs.
Radiology:
Our on-site modern x-ray equipment provides our doctors and technicians with the highest quality radiographs to aid in properly diagnosing many disorders.

We understand that your pet will feel more at ease with you at home, but sometimes sick patients need services that can only be performed in the hospital. If your pet is admitted to DAH, we strive to keep the length of your pet’s hospital stay as brief as possible.
While in our hospital, your pet will rest comfortably on soft, clean linens in our quiet ward. A well-trained, qualified veterinary technician is then assigned to monitor the condition of each patient and to provide attentive medical treatment with tender loving care. Your pet’s doctor will consult with you often to inform you of your pet’s progress and to discuss treatment options. In addition, our knowledgeable veterinary technicians are available to answer your questions and concerns.
Dental disease can be life threatening. It puts stress on your pet’s immune system, and can weaken major organs such as the liver, kidneys and heart. Periodontal disease (a gradual destruction of the gums by bacteria), is the number one health problem diagnosed in eight out of ten cats and dogs over four years of age. To keep your pet’s dental health at its best, we provide an extensive dental care program designed to treat and prevent dental disease. Our dental services include teeth cleaning, polishing, tooth extractions, and oral surgery. Preventive dental care – having your pet’s teeth examined and cleaned on a regular basis – can add years to the life of your pet.
Our doctors and staff take pain relief very seriously. Because the comfort of our patients is one of our major priorities, we employ preventative pain management strategies using local anesthetics, narcotics, and anti-inflammatory drugs. Medications are dispensed for all surgical procedures, wounds, dental extractions, and senior arthritis management.
