Testing Offered in Our Veterinary Laboratory

advanced veterinary diagnosticsFrom regular wellness screenings and preventive testing, to lab work designed to detect illnesses, our laboratory is crucial to the proper care of your pets. During the first year of life for your puppy and kitten, lab tests are performed at the initial wellness exams. Test may include the following:

  • CBC (complete blood count)—This test measures red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets to help diagnose such problems as anemia, infections, and leukemia
  • Chemistry panel—This test measures enzymes, electrolytes, and other chemical elements to reveal the level of organ function
  • Urinalysis—This test detects the presence of certain substances in the urine, such as sugar, protein, blood, and white blood cells, for diagnosing a variety of illnesses
  • Fecal screening for parasites

Other lab work may include blood testing for heartworm and tick-borne diseases like Lyme, thyroid tests, assessment of clotting before surgery, and tests for feline infectious diseases like leukemia and FIV.

Sick & Well Pets Benefit from Lab Tests

Laboratory testing is beneficial in detecting many conditions at their early stages of development, before they become serious illnesses that are difficult, uncomfortable, and expensive to treat.

For healthy pets, these baseline values become an essential part of every medical history. If a pet becomes sick, new test results are measured against the baseline values to determine the level of abnormality.

When a pet is scheduled for surgery or dental procedures, screening tests help us identify any risk of complications during general anesthesia. This type of screening test may be recommended for all ages, including puppies, kittens, adult, and senior pets.
